Zika virus is spread to people through mosquito bites.
The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting for several days to a week. About one in five people infected with Zika virus become symptomatic. For more information about Chikungunya review at this factsheet or visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
 .

Mosquito Protection

Picture
Picture
More than just a nuisance, mosquitoes can be dangerous. They can spread West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, Malaria and Yellow Fever, among other diseases. A blood-borne illness, West Nile Virus is transmitted by mosquitoes to a variety of hosts, including birds, horses, cats, dogs, bats, rabbits, and humans. Most cases of West Nile in humans show up in late summer or early fall, but can appear year-round in warmer parts of the country. While August and September are prime mosquito months due to warmer temperatures, mosquitoes begin breeding as early as February or March.

Due to the threat from mosquitoes, there have been several companies that have spawned up across the country to profit from this situation. But consumers should  know that most cities have a Mosquito Abatement Program in place paid by their local tax dollars. Most of these agencies will provide mosquito treatments to homes and business at no charge within their territory. There are however mosquito misting systems that can be installed around a customers home for on-going treatment of mosquitoes. The Department of Agriculture along with the EPA do not look kindly on these systems, because of wind drift of pesticides that may occur.

No mosquito treatment will totally eliminate mosquitoes until all breeding areas have been eliminated, which is almost impossible. However treatments will suppress the mosquito population. Remember that mosquitoes only need a thimble full of water to survive, which means homeowners must be vigilant. It’s important to eliminate conditions around your home that attract mosquitoes, such as standing water around yards, in bird baths, roof gutters, pet food dishes or potted plants.
If you are in need of a mosquito treatment and the local Mosquito Abatement agencies cannot assist you, our Yard Service Treatment will suppress the mosquitoes in and around your home, especially if you are trying to have an outdoor function. This service is a one time treatment.

Mosquito Tips
  • When outdoors, spray an EPA-approved insect repellent on exposed skin and over clothing.
  • During prime mosquito biting hours of dusk to dawn, wear long sleeves and pants in addition to repellent, or consider staying indoors.
  • Make sure screens on windows and doors fit tightly and have no holes.
  • Eliminate breeding sites by emptying standing water from objects around the home, including flower pots, buckets, tire swings, and childrenÂ’s wading pools when not in use.
  • Change the water in pet dishes and replace the water in bird baths weekly.
